We are at the gates of the Casentinesi Forest National Park; a #UNESCO World Heritage wonder that will allow you to experience the outdoors in a surprising way... #tuttitaly
In the high valley of the Rabbi River, on the north-western slopes of Monte Arsiccio, stands Premilcuore - a small town awarded the Touring Club Orange Flag.
Legend
It is said that the village of Premilcuore was founded by a Roman soldier named Marcello. At the time of Caracalla, the soldier was accused of having been part of a conspiracy against the emperor. He fled from Rome and, together with the Roman exiles who followed him, devoted himself to agriculture and pastoralism. Thus he gave life to the community that still lives in the area today.
History
Traces of the Aeneolithic, Umbrian-Etruscan, and late-Roman periods were found in the area.
In the early Middle Ages, the area was under the dominion of the Ravenna church; from 1124 to 1300, it was controlled by the Guidi family, the count of Modigliana. It then passed under the control of the bishop of Forlimpopoli and subsequently of the Church of Rome, who in 1372 gave it to Amerigo Manfredi da Marradi.
Three years later, in 1375, Premilcuore rebelled against Manfredi and passed under the dominion of Florence. In 1923, the village was annexed to the territory of Forlì.
What to see
In the heart of the town, in addition to the Rocca and the Clock Tower, Palace Giannelli and Guidi House deserve a careful look.
The surroundings of the village - the Bridge del Gorgolaio and the two ancient mills - were once used for milling chestnuts and for working wood using the power of water.
We are also at the gates of the Casentinesi Forest Park, a UNESCO heritage site, and several hiking trails start from here.
In summer, Premilcuore is frequented for its natural jewels - such as Grotta Urlante - by lovers of fresh air and bathing in the river.
