Positano's "The Pearl of the Amalfi Coast," the vertical city set in the rock, where the stairs replace the streets... #UNESCO heritage... #tuttitaly
We chose a spring day to visit Positano on foot, wearing sneakers, which are necessary to be able to go up and down the infinite stairs that replace the streets but that allow you to enjoy a breathtaking landscape fully.
With each step, the eyes fill with amazement. And we feel lucky to visit a place coveted by travel lovers.
Positano is wedged into the rock, and like the Sirens hosted on the Galli islands, it never ceases to seduce those who arrive here.
Seen from the sea, it looks almost like a shell streaked with different colors. A picturesque landscape, from the green of the Lattari Mountains that crown it to the white, pink, and yellow of its Mediterranean houses, the silver gray of the pebble beaches, and, finally, the blue of its sea.
The name of Positano comes from a legend, according to which the painting of the Madonna was aboard a Turkish ship blocked offshore until the captain heard a voice whispering, "Pose, pose." ...
The picture was thrown into the sea, and the people of Positano found it where the church (which houses it) now stands, realizing that the Virgin had chosen their city as her home.
Curiosity:
1. Even if you don't notice it at first sight, Positano is divided into twelve districts, one for each of its churches.
2. In Positano, a river flowed in the Valle dei Mulini district. The remains of that river, as well as of the ancient mills, are visible in the Mulini and Arienzo areas. Today, there is no bakery shop. The bread comes from Agerola.
3. The Positano cemetery is unique and particular in the panorama and fact that many artists who have lived or loved this city are buried there.
