Porto Giunco beach - Villasimius (SU) - Sardinia

The sandy tongue is sandwiched between two bodies of water. We are on the beach of Porto Giunco, one of the most famous in Sardinia.

Porto Giunco Beach attracts many tourists every year. Nevertheless, the dimensions of the beach are such that there is always enough space to lie down and relax at any time of the day.

The shallow and sandy bottom makes this beach ideal for families with children.

The inlet is set between the capes, which act as a natural defense from the winds.

The beach is bordered by dunes covered with juniper, mastic, and Mediterranean scrub.

To reach the beach, you must take a path surrounded by a

grove of eucalyptus trees. The way runs along the Notteri Pond, a habitat of pink flamingos and other migratory birds. It was once lush with reeds, hence the name of the beach.

Tracking enthusiasts can climb the peninsula to the

southwest, on top of which stands the imposing Tower of Porto Giunco, 9 m high, built in the seventeenth century by the Spaniards - and from there enjoy the wonderful surrounding panorama.
