The medieval village is a rare walled city inserted among the most beautiful villages in Italy... #tuttitaly
During the tour of Tuscany, we had to include the splendid village of Poppi and the visit to the majestic Castle of the Conti Guidi.
Poppi rises in the center of the Casentino, one of the most beautiful valleys in Tuscany.
We park the car outside the city walls and walk up the street leading to the Castle's entrance.
We don't go right in to visit it. Our child first takes us to eat ice cream at the nearby bar, which offers us a large terrace to relax and admire the landscape. The green hills embrace the village. Here and there, our attention is attracted by rather particular works of art, such as the enormous shoes placed in the middle of a lawn, the two young mannequins who spend their time on the roof of a house, or the three little horses placed there. One above the other reflects our tricolor.
Entering the Castle, we are fascinated by its structure. On the right, we find a majestic staircase that leads us to the first floor. What particularly strikes me is the vast library that contains ancient volumes, which few can access. It seems a mysterious place, as if the secrets that govern universal law were hiding here.
The castle exhibits its coats of arms, and the various rooms tell its story. Furthermore, our gaze is captivated by its splendid works of art.
But before leaving, my son takes me to a somewhat suggestive room. This is located on the ground floor and appears to be a prison. We still find the skull of a prisoner there. Time seems to have stopped, and the past is not that far from the present.
