On a peninsula in the center of the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia, rises Pizzo Calabro, an Italian town of 9264 inhabitants. Pizzo is famous for the production of truffles and the ice cream quality in general, so much so that it is defined as the "city of ice cream."
This enchanting territory includes a rugged coast characterized by sandy beaches in some places and rocks in others.
The rocky part hosts e various caves and a Grotto, which takes its name from the color of its splendid waters.
Like many other Calabrian towns, Pizzo is also associated with an eponymous hero. It is therefore said that it was founded by Nepeto at the time of ancient Greece, although there is no evidence.
The existence of a fort and a village and the Basilian monks' community can only be documented since 1300. On the other hand, there are traces of ancient fishing activity in the area, especially tuna.
For centuries, millions of tuna reached the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia's beach. The famous tonnare of Bivona and Pizzo were built here.
