Piediluco Lake - (TR) - Umbria

Lake Piediluco, one of the remains of the ancient Lacus Velinus, is located in the southeastern foothills of Umbria at an altitude of 375 meters.

Country of Piediluco

On the shores of the lake stands the town of Piediluco, a picturesque fraction of Terni, whose name means "at the foot of the sacred wood."

The medieval-looking village, with its low-colored houses, is in the narrow strip of land between the lake and the mountain.

The lake, nestled between wooded hills, looks like an alpine body of water.

The natural tributary of the lake is the Fuscello Stream, and the other two are due to human intervention: the Velino River and the Nera River.

The inflow and outflow of water are regulated for the energy needs of Terni's industries. The emissary, i.e., the Velino River, is diverted towards Marmore and flows into the Nera River, forming the Marmore waterfall.

Curiosity: a storeroom from the Final Bronze Age (12th-11th century BC) was found near Lake Piediluco. The material found is kept in the Pigorini Museum.
