Piagnaro Castle - Pontremoli (MS) - Lands of Lunigiana - Tuscany

Built-in a strategic point to protect the Apennine passes and around which the first nucleus of the medieval oppidum was formed, a vital road... #tuttitaly

The Piagnaro Castle, with its troubled history and changes over the centuries, represents a place full of charm. Its strategic position made it a critical control point on the communication routes of the time, and its defensive structure testifies to its military importance.

Today, the castle houses the Lunigiana Stele Statue Museum, which offers visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the history and culture of the region. The complete restoration of the castle has made it possible to preserve and enhance this essential historical heritage.

The fifteenth-century semicircular tower, the oldest part still visible, is a valid symbol of the castle. Its unique shape and its panoramic position offer a breathtaking view of the valley and the town of Pontremoli.

Through the main entrance, you enter a large courtyard with an ancient well, which adds a touch of authenticity to the castle. From here, a staircase leads to the terrace, from which it is possible to admire the surrounding landscape and enjoy a unique panoramic view.

A second nucleus of the castle, located further down the hill, has a typical barracks appearance. These constructions testify to the military use of the court until the early years of the Kingdom of Italy.

The castle of Piagnaro is a place that combines history, culture, and scenic beauty. Its visit offers a unique experience in which it is possible to immerse yourself in the past and admire the majesty of this ancient fortress.
