Pesche (IS) - Parish of San Michele Arcangelo - Molise

The suggestive "village-nativity scene" in the heart of Molise... Village of the Villages 2019... #tuttitaly

Pesche (IS) - Parish of San Michele Arcangelo - Molise

In the heart of Molise, on the rocky slope of Monte San Marco, rises Pesche.

The name derives from the Latin "Pesclum" and indicates a notable rocky presence. Peaches mean "built on the rock."

We could not stop; from afar, we saw this small nativity scene carved into the mountain.

We are fascinated by the silence in the village, its splendid architecture, and the uncontaminated nature surrounding it—an extraordinary place.

It seems to be a place lost in nowhere, almost forgotten by the rest of the world. Yet you can feel the love and care that its inhabitants dedicate to it as if it were a precious jewel.

The white houses carved into the mountain are a splendid contrast with the luxuriant nature's green and the rocks' gray.

Here and there, we notice some locals who look at us almost as if they were studying us and then timidly close the door.

Climbed to the highest point, we can enjoy a unique panorama only Pesche can give us.

In 2019, this fascinating village participated in the competition for the title "Il borgo dei Borghi" award. Pesche is often talked about as a small village-nativity scene that seems straight out of a fairy tale.
