Pantalica Oriented Nature Reserve, Anapo Valley, and Cava Grande Torrent, a small paradise in the Syracuse hinterland. It is among the most spectacular reserves in all of Sicily... and beyond... #UNESCO #tuttitaly
The Oriented Nature Reserve Pantalica, located in the Val di Noto in Sicily, is a lovely place that boasts UNESCO recognition thanks to its historical and natural heritage. Considered one of the most spectacular reserves in all of Sicily, Pantalica is a true hidden paradise inland from Syracuse.
Within the Reserve, you will find the largest necropolis in Sicily, with over 3000 ancient tombs that testify to the rich history of this region. Exploring the reserve, you will immerse yourself in a breathtaking landscape with a majestic canyon crossed by the Anapo River, whose crystal-clear waters almost seem invisible due to their purity.
The plateau with the northern Necropolis dominates the surrounding area, surrounded by lush vegetation that frames the ancient human settlements carved into the rock. Along the way, you will come across several suggestive little lakes where you can relax and admire the beauty of the clear water. The karst caves shape the surrounding landscape, including the famous Bat Cave, which hosts 5 of the seven bat species present in Sicily.
Following the course of the Calcinara Stream, a tributary of the Anapo, you will arrive at the majestic Cave, which, in the past, was a refuge not only for bats but also for the ancient peoples who inhabited this region.
It is recommended to wear layered clothing, a swimsuit, a towel, hiking or river shoes, a hat, and sunscreen. Remember to bring spare shoes and socks in the car to enjoy exploring this primordial place full of history and charm.
