Orzinuovi (BS) - Lombardy

It has always been a city rich in cultural activities... #tuttitaly

Orzinuovi was born as a fortified center, founded by the Brescians towards the end of the 12th century. Located 5 km from Orzivecchi, to contrast the opposite Soncino.

When Brescia entered the domains of the Republic of Venice, Orzinuovi followed its fate, and in memory of that period, it still retains the stylistic features of the urban organization. Even on the facade of the current town hall, we still find a lion of San Marco.

Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II is the heart of the city. Here are exhibited monuments, palaces, and patrician palaces of good artistry. We also find the Rocca, which was used as a prison for a certain period and currently serves as a cultural container. In the upper wing of the Rocca is the town art gallery, which houses many valuable works of the pictorial and artistic tradition of the area.

Noteworthy is the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the most important religious building in the city. Founded in 1193, it has an imposing interior with three naves in the Gothic style. The side chapels and the facade belong to the seventeenth century.

The Palazzo Podestarile, now the seat of the Municipality, preserves the lion of San Marco on one of its sides in memory of the Venetian domination.

The building has gothic features and holds essential paintings in the council chamber.

Orzinuovi has always been a city rich in cultural activities. Art meetings, exhibitions, and important events often take place there.
