Montechiarugolo (PR) - Church San Quentin - One of the most beautiful villages in Italy - Emilia Romagna

Montechiarugolo rises in Emilia-Romagna, on the left bank of the Enza stream, which marks the border with the province of Reggio Emilia.

The medieval village probably arose in the 10th century following the deforestation carried out by the Augustinian monks of the Abbey of Santa Felicola.

The abbey, mentioned for the first time in 924, was destroyed by a fire in 1313.

Subsequently, the Simonetta Counts bought the building and transformed it into a private residence. The structure's church and portico bear witness to its Romanesque origins.

In 1121 the castle was built for defensive purposes. In 1313, the manor was razed to the ground. Two centuries later, it was acquired and rebuilt by Luchino Visconti.

The castle, developed around two internal courtyards, has numerous internal rooms and a loggia decorated with sixteenth-century frescoes.

In Piazzale San Quintino stands the church of the same name in Romanesque and neo-Romanesque style, built in the Middle Ages.

The building develops on a single nave layout flanked by three chapels. In the middle of the clergy, the altarpiece depicting the Assumption, dating back to the beginning of the 18th century, stands out behind the main altar.

Montechiarugolo has entered the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy thanks also to the prestigious traditional products, such as Parmigiano Reggiano.
