It is believed that the name may derive either from the luster of the rocks found in the area or, more likely, due to the presence of the offices of silversmiths and bankers that arose during the dominion of the Domizi... #tuttitaly
Monte Argentario is a peninsula jutting out into the Tyrrhenian Sea at the two southernmost islands of the Tuscan Archipelago: Isola del Giglio and Giannutri.
The Argentario comprises two small port municipalities: Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano.
Initially, the peninsula was an island, but over time, the combined action of the sea currents and the Albegna River created the Giannella Tombolo and the Feniglia Tombolo. These joined the islet to the mainland, simultaneously forming the Orbetello Lagoon.
Punta Telegrafo (635 m) marks the top of the mountain, whose territory is characterized by hills and inaccessible stretches, softened by the work of the man who has created terraces with rows of vines over time.
Small bays, stony coves, and golden beaches alternate along the coast, creating a particularly suggestive landscape.
From the peninsula, you can reach: the Isolotto, the Isola Rossa, the Isola Argentarola, the Formica di Burano, the Isola del Giglio, Giannutri, and the Formiche di Grosseto.
Typical meal
Caldaro is a traditional dish of the Argentario: a typical poor fish soup.
