Milan is known throughout the world as the capital of fashion.

Pride of Italians and a popular destination for foreign tourists, Milan is served by three airports: Malpensa, Orio al Serio, and Linate.

Milan's Linate airport is the closest to the city center, while Orio al Serio is the favorite of low-cost airlines.

Among the things to see

If you are coming to Milan for the first time, head to the Navigli area for a walk along the Naviglio Grande and an aperitif in one of the many local bars.

The Navigli are the artificial canals which, from the 12th

century, with the Naviglio Grande's construction, contributed to Milan's economic and commercial fortune. Here, you can admire and immortalize glimpses suspended in time with shops and courtyards of great charm.

To let the world know you've been to Milan, take a photo in front of the Duomo, about 1.6 km from the Navigli.

The famous church, in Gothic style, dedicated to Santa

Maria Nascente, is the largest in Italy and houses around 3500 statues, among which we also meet illustrious and lay people such as Dante Alighieri.

After the Duomo, Milan's second most important church is the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio, an excellent example of Lombard Romanesque architecture. Consecrated in 387, it still retains its original appearance.

In the refectory of the Dominican Convent of Santa Maria

delle Grazie, we can admire the Ultima Cena, the mural painting by Leonardo da Vinci.

The Cenacolo Vinciano is known worldwide; to visit it, it is advisable to make an appointment well in advance. Official site

The city's beating heart is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, designed by Giuseppe Mengoni.

Rich in colors, sounds, and flavors, the gallery is in Piazza Duomo, to the left of the Cathedral.

Symbol of Milan, the Castello Sforzesco, built between 1358 and 1368, today houses numerous museums: the Pinacoteca, the Museum of Ancient Art, the Egyptian Museum, and the Museum of Musical Instruments.

Behind the Castle is the splendid Parco Sempione, enriched by centenary trees and artificial lakes.

Typical meal

Among the traditional Milanese dishes: the Milanese risotto enriched with highly prized saffron which gives it the color of gold, a symbol of wealth, and the Cassoeula, a poor man's dish made with vegetables and pork waste.
