Marble Quarry Le Tagliate (Henraux)- Monte Alto, Stazzema, Pontestazzemese (LU)- Apuan Alps- Tuscany

Le Tagliate, an abandoned marble quarry located in the Tre Fiumi area near Arni, in the municipality of Stazzema, is a place that contains a fascinating and evocative history.

This quarry, owned by the Henraux company, has represented an essential center for extracting precious Carrara marble for many years.

Carrara marble, known worldwide for its beauty and quality, has been used to create highly prestigious art and monuments.

Le Tagliate, with its imposing white marble walls, has witnessed intense mining activity, which has made the Tre Fiumi area famous. With their hard work, the workers dug and cut the marble, transforming the quarry into a place of great economic importance for the region.

However, mining activity declined as time passed, and the quarry was abandoned.

Despite being abandoned, the "Le Tagliate" quarry is still owned by the Henraux company. This place, accessible through a large, narrow opening carved into the marble, offers a breathtaking and fascinating sight.

The vertical walls of white marble rise majestically, creating a suggestive and imposing panorama. Here and there, you can admire small lakes formed by rainwater, adding magic to the landscape.

But that's not all: daring artists have taken over this abandoned area, decorating the marble walls with extraordinary graffiti and murals. Over time, they transformed this place into an authentic open-air art gallery.

Each work tells a story, and each color and stroke expresses emotions and thoughts.

It is a unique experience to walk among these works of art, immersing yourself in the creativity and energy that permeates the environment.

The "Le Tagliate" quarry is a place that combines the natural beauty of white marble with the artistic expression of graffiti, creating a unique and fascinating combination.

Curiosity

Michelangelo discovered the marble quarries of the Henraux company in the 16th century. Michelangelo was fascinated by the beauty and purity of this white marble extracted from the Carrara quarries. His discovery prompted him to use this extraordinary material for many of his most famous works, including the David and the Pietà.

Carrara marble offered Michelangelo a unique quality and brightness, allowing him to sculpt extraordinary details and create works of great majesty. Thanks to his skill and masterful use of Carrara marble, Michelangelo left a lasting legacy in art and helped make these marble quarries one of the most important and renowned in the world.
