Longiano (FC) - Emilia Romagna

Longiano is located on the first hills between Cesena and Rimini, 179 meters above sea level, near state road nine via Emilia.

The well-preserved medieval village offers numerous historical and artistic testimonies. Since 2005 it has been the "Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club."

Starting from the Petrella Theater and arriving at the Malatesta Fortress, we visited the Museum of Sacred Art, Cast Iron, and the Museum of the Territory. We also experienced the thrill of walking in the underground war refuge crossing the entire village. The shelter was excavated in 1944 and could hold up to 2,000 people.

The Petrella Theater owes its name to the famous Palermo composer Errico Petrella, from whom it was inaugurated in 1870. Its interior is intimate and welcoming, arranged in a horseshoe shape, with the stalls surrounded by two tiers of boxes and the gallery.

The "Museum of Sacred Art" is housed inside the Oratory of San Giuseppe Nuovo. Inside the building are works of art, sacred vestments, altars, documents, and furnishings.

The "Museum of Cast Iron" is housed in a small eighteenth-century church. The company, "Neri S.p.A." of Longiano, produces cast outdoor iron furniture; therefore, two exhibition venues have been created. This is in the historic center of Longiano, where the most significant collection pieces are found. A larger one near the factories, where the history of cast iron is traced back to the nineteenth century, with works from all over the world.

The Museum of the Territory collects the history and traditions of Romagna with over 6000 pieces related to peasant civilization, prints, motorcycles, cameras, films, toys, etc. You will also find small reconstructions of home environments of the past, which give you the feeling of going back in time.

Finally, the Malatesta Castle, which today houses the "Tito Balestra Collection." The Tito Balestra ONLUS foundation has donated to the community the works of art collected over the years by the poet, born in Longiano in 1923.

Longiano welcomes tourists all year round. In the first weeks of March, thanks to the numerous orchards surrounding the center, the carpets of white and pink flowers of spring bloom are a feast for the eyes. Autumn gives the countryside evocative colors, and during the Christmas period, the atmosphere becomes magical on the Longiano Dei Presepi path.

If you want to experience this experience firsthand, I suggest you check the opening hours of the castle and the museums on the website: www.comune.longiano.fc.it
