Gola del Furlo State Nature Reserve (PU) - Montefeltro - Marche

The Gola del Furlo is a magical canyon created by the continuous flow of the Cadigliano River, which flows between Monte Pietralata and Monte Paganuccio. Here, you can walk in a suggestive place where nature reigns supreme, filling your eyes with amazement in front of so much wonder.

The Nature Reserve contains golden eagles, peregrine falcons, and gray herons. Among the mammals, there are wild boars, roe deer, and fallow deer, as well as some wolf specimens.

You can start your journey at the Visitor Center of the Gola del Furlo State Nature Reserve. From here starts a path within everyone's reach. This pedestrian street runs along the ancient Flaminia road, built by the Romans. To allow a leisurely passage of people and vehicles, Emperor Vespasian had a tunnel excavated in the narrowest point of the gorge, which was called "petra pertusa" or "forulum" (small hole), hence "Furlo."

La Galena Park is at the foot of the mountains, where you can picnic, discover nature, and walk along the river's banks.

In the thirties, the forest ranger reproduced the Duce's profile through a work of excavations and walls on the ridge of Monte Pietralata.

Today, this work is partially recognizable, even if it was destroyed during the Second World War by a group of partisans. In the past, Benito Mussolini often stopped in this area during his travels.

The best way to enjoy the Gola del Furlo is on foot. The Nature Reserve offers several itineraries and possibilities for walks between the walls of the Gorge, among which to admire spectacular nature embellished with fairy tale flora and fauna.
