Lake Serrù and Lake Agnel - Ceresole Reale (TO) - Orco Valley - Gran Paradiso National Park - Nivolet Pass - Border between Piedmont and the Aosta Valley

In the stunning Orco Valley, at an altitude of about 2300 meters, lie two genuine wonders of nature: Lake Serrù and Lake Agnel. These lakes, part of a network of artificial water bodies, not only supply several hydroelectric power plants but also offer breathtaking scenery and the opportunity to immerse oneself in the beauty of the alpine landscape.

Lake Serrù, the first encountered along the road leading up to the Nivolet Pass, is characterized by a grey-milky color, due to the glacial silt brought by the surrounding glaciers. Beyond its dam, a comfortable walk along a flat path skirts the lake, providing an accessible experience for all mountain lovers.

Walking along its shore, one can observe ibex, chamois, and marmots that populate the area, lively examples of alpine fauna basking in the revitalizing sun. Furthermore, it’s not uncommon to spot eagles and griffon vultures soaring in the blue sky, while the nearby ponds and peat bogs host temporary frogs, perfectly adapted to the high altitude. The landscape is further enriched by a variety of flowers blooming along the path, adding a touch of magic to the environment.

A little higher up, Lake Agnel captivates with its deep blue color, a result of sediments filtered by the streams upstream. This lake, apart from being a charming destination for hikers, offers numerous outdoor activity opportunities. Trekking, mountain biking, and walks are just some of the unforgettable experiences to be had in this natural setting. Here too, the wildlife stands out: with a bit of luck, one can catch sight of marmots and chamois moving among the rocks, while majestic eagles soar overhead.
