Frosolone (IS) - Church of Santa Maria Assunta -One of the most beautiful villages in Italy-Molise

It was the second municipality in the region to have electricity between 1896 - 1897, before Campobasso and just after Isernia... #tuttitaly

Frosolone rises in the province of Isernia in unspoiled nature. The municipality has 2985 inhabitants.

Once we arrive at our destination, we are greeted by spectacular washhouses, to which we cannot help but take some photos, and then continue to the inhabited center, which dates back to medieval times.

The enclosures of megalithic walls visible on the mountain overlooking the town testify to its Samnite origins. The first official news, however, dates back to the eleventh century, when it was part of the County of Isernia.

In the mother church of the town, Santa Maria Assunta, the bishop of Trivento, Giovanni Battista Ferruzza (1655-1658), is buried, as the plaque walled up in the right aisle of the building recalls.

The ancient castle, also home to the various feudal lords who owned Frosolone, has now become the Palazzo Zampini. In fact, in 1814, the baronial residence was sold to Cosimo Zampini, a notable of the place.

One of the most important traditional events of the place is the transhumance of the Colantuono family.

The cattle parade ends in Acquevive, a hamlet just north of Frosolone.

Also important is the National Exhibition of Scissors and Knives and the parade of allegorical floats on 1 August.
