It has one of the best preserved medieval walls in Molise, with a 360 ° view that sweeps over the beautiful surrounding landscape... #tuttitaly
In Molise, in the province of Isernia, stands Fornelli, a charming village surrounded by medieval walls, which, in addition to being among the best preserved in the region, gives us a 360 ° panorama.
The town is made up of three connected urban profiles: the first two, older, including the Mother Church, the Palace, and the seven towers; the third, the current part, extends down to the valley.
The village is characterized by soil rich in clay. Olive trees surround it and produce high-quality fruity and light oil, making it one of the most popular in Molise. The name perhaps derives from an oven for the production of baked bricks, present in the town in ancient times.
We enter the historic center through the main door, which, at the time, was equipped with a drawbridge that rose over the moat.
Very impressive is the Portacatello Nativity, of which the locals are proud and which fascinates curious visitors like us.
To see the Statue of San Michele inside the Mother Church of San Michele Arcangelo, consecrated in 1746.
To admire: the Renaissance portal of the Church of San Pietro Martire, heavily damaged by the seismic events of the 1980s; the charming private chapel of the Laurelli
family, the baronial palace, which essentially repeats the layout of the ancient castle.
Due to the compactness of its historical and urban fabric, Fornelli is recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
