Church SS. Faustino and Giovita -Bienno(BS) - Beautiful villages in Italy- Camonica Valley -Lombardy

The Church of Saints Faustino and Giovita is located in the village of Bienno, in the province of Brescia, in the Lombardy region. This village has been awarded the title of "One of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy" thanks to its charm and history.

The church is situated at the top of Via Castello and is surrounded by a large square. It is a seventeenth-century church dedicated to Saints Faustino and Giovita, whose statues are in two niches on the facade. The Sarnico sandstone portal provides access to the interior.

One of the most exciting features of the Church of Saints Faustino and Giovita is its bell tower, which is rotated to the church. This is because the bell tower belonged to the previous church, which was oriented differently. It is a curiosity that attracts the attention of visitors.

Once inside, you can admire numerous artistic treasures.

Fiamminghino, a painter from the sixteenth century, frescoes the church's vault.

The sculptures, on the other hand, are the work of Ramus. Along the nave are six altars, each enclosed by wrought iron gates made in 1647 by artists from Bienno.

Another valuable work of art is the organ made by the Antegnati brothers. This musical instrument is considered a true gem and creates a suggestive atmosphere during religious services.

The altarpiece of the main altar is the work of the Venetian painter Giovan Batista Pittoni and represents the Martyrdom of Saints Faustino and Giovita. This painting exemplifies great artistic mastery and testifies to the importance of the patron saints for the local community.

Facing the church square stands the Francesconi Palace, which houses a gallery frescoed by Fiamminghino. This palace represents another element of historical and artistic interest in the village of Bienno.

The Church of Saints Faustino and Giovita is, therefore, a place of great artistic and historical value, which deserves a visit during a trip to the Val Camonica.
