The Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Morano Calabro, located in the upper part of the town near the Castle, is one of the oldest churches in Morano. Built in 1000, it has undergone renovations over the centuries that have modified its architectural appearance.
The Bell Tower, dating back to the medieval period, was initially detached from the building and is now set back from the church. On the other hand, the domed roof is the result of works carried out between 1822 and 1886.
Inside, the church has three aisles in a Latin cross shape, with a late Baroque style that shows Rococo influences thanks to interventions at the end of the 18th century.
Precious works of art, including the 15th-century Sarcophagus Front, the fresco of the Madonna of Grace, and the silver processional cross from 1445, are found inside the church.
The marble statues by Pietro Bernini, father of Gianlorenzo, dating back to 1592 and 1601, are among the most significant works. Paintings by artists such as Cristoforo Roncalli and Pedro Torres further evidence the church's artistic importance.
During the 18th century, the church underwent significant architectural and artistic renovations, introducing marble altars from Naples and wooden furnishings made by the Fusco workshop. In Rococo style, the Choir is a masterpiece of the Fusco family of cabinetmakers, who decorated the environment with refinement and skill.
