Important place of Catholic worship located in the heart of the historic center of Verona; it is the largest, solemn and representative church in Verona... #tuttitaly
The Basilica of Sant'Anastasia in Verona is an extraordinary example of Italian Gothic architecture. Located at the end of the Decumanus Maximus, the main Roman road that crossed the city, the basilica preserves the name of a Lombard church dedicated to the virgin Anastasia, a martyr of the 4th century. Around 1290, the Dominican order settled here and began the construction of the majestic Gothic basilica, dedicated to Saint Peter Martyr, the patron saint of Verona along with Saint Zeno.
The work was made possible thanks to the support of the powerful Della Scala family, who ruled Verona from the 13th to the 14th century. Sant'Anastasia is the largest church in the city and stands out for its three imposing naves supported by twelve columns made of red Verona marble. Inside the basilica, there are five chapels on the transept rich in artworks and historical significance. On the left side is the ancient oratory of the convent, the evocative Giusti Chapel.
Visiting the Basilica of Sant'Anastasia means immersing oneself in history and art, admiring the grandeur of Gothic architecture, and discovering the details and artworks that tell centuries of faith and devotion. A place that enchants visitors with its beauty and its atmosphere of sacredness, confirming itself as one of Verona's artistic and spiritual treasures.
