Castelnuovo di Conza (SA) - Campania

In Campania, there is Castelnuovo di Conza, a small village with 602 inhabitants. The number is destined to decrease, given that every year for every ten people who die, two or three are born, according to the mayor. There are more citizens residing abroad than those remaining in the Italian municipality.

The town rises 650 m in the upper valley of the Sele River. The natural conformation of the territory and its position offer significant exposure to windy currents. As a result, in recent years, the Municipality has become a vital wind farm, installing several medium and large-sized wind turbines.

The town's territory was already inhabited between the 5th and 3rd centuries BC, as demonstrated by the archaeological findings of some Samnite sites subjected to excavation tests by Professor Werner Johannowsky of the Superintendence of Salerno.

The presence of a castle is a probable reconstruction of a previous Lombard structure placed to guard the valley and the border with the Byzantine territories.

Today, Castelnuovo di Conza has few inhabitants. However, the number doubles during the holiday period when many return to spend the holidays there.
