Castel del Rio (BO) - Emilia Romagna

Along the Santerno valley stands Castel del Rio, a village where, even today, we find traces of the dominion of the Alidosi family. As evidence of their power: Palazzo Alidosi, now the seat of the Municipality and the Museum of War and the Gothic Line; the Alidosi Bridge.

The Museum of War and the Gothic Line introduces the visitor to the life of the inhabitants during the World Wars through the collection of weapons, uniforms, and objects found on battlefields; the "Animal Tower" section is dedicated to the local fauna.

The humpbacked Ponte degli Alidosi is a unique example

globally, thanks to its breadth. One is struck by its grandeur and majesty. It was built on commission from the Alidosi family in 1499 to facilitate trade between the two banks of the river; it has therefore been connecting the banks of the Santerno for more than 500 years.

In autumn, the village comes alive with the Chestnut

Festival, where you can taste delicious traditional dishes.

The chestnut groves and sweet chestnuts of Castel del Rio PGI are protected by a prestigious brand that regulates their production.

In summer, you can shelter from the sun in the equipped area along the Santerno, under the Alidosi bridge, where you can swim.

Not to be missed: the Renaissance Festivals, between June

and July; the Sagra del Marrone, every Sunday in October; the Sagra del Porcino, between August and September; the Truffle Festival, in September.
