Carmine Church - Medicine (BO) - Emilia Romagna

After several controversial projects, it was decided to erect the new church in the most suitable place, even if - a unique example - separated from the convent building by a public road (Via Canedi)... #tuttitaly

The Church of the Carmine was built starting from 1696 on a project by the architect Giuseppe Antonio Torri by the will of the Carmelite Fathers, who considered the "old church," annexed to the convent, by now inadequate to the importance of the Carmelite community of Medicine.

After several controversial projects, it was decided to build the new church in the most suitable place, even if - the only example - separated from the Convent by a public road (Via Canedi).

Some underpasses were built between the convent and the church to solve this inconvenience.

The construction of the building lasted until 1724, the year in which the temple was blessed.

Inside the church, all the original eighteenth-century paintings are preserved, created by the significant painters of the Bologna area, according to a thematic program centered on the history of the order's spirituality.

The iconographic itinerary can be read from the entrance to the apse.
