Caposele (AV) - Campania

The town is known for the presence of the Sele springs that feed the Apulian aqueduct and for the religious place Materdomini which, with the sanctuary of San Gerardo Maiella, is the destination of more than a million pilgrims every year... #tuttitaly

In the upper Sele valley, in the province of Avellino, stands Caposele, a town known for the religious locality Materdomini, which houses the Sanctuary of San Gerardo Maiella, to which, every year, about a million pilgrims go to venerate the tomb of the titular saint.

The historic center of Caposele houses one of the most beautiful Christian temples on the Italian peninsula, the Mother Church of San Lorenzo. Inside, you can see eighteenth-century statues and an altar with the image of Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman at the well.

The Sele River winds through the area supplying the springs of the Monti Picentini Regional Park.

The Sele Springs feed the Apulian Aqueduct, whose story is told by the Water Museum at Casa Houston.

Traditional products

Among the excellent wines of the area, the Irpinia IGT stands out. At the same time, among the traditional products, we find the Matasse (homemade pasta similar to spaghetti), to which, on August 9 of each year, the Matasse and Fusilli Festival is dedicated.
