Stone, the characterizing element of the history and architecture of the town, has been used since ancient times to construct houses, fences, communication routes, and artifacts.
What to visit
Caneva boasts:
- The ruins of the castle built around 1000;
- The Church of San Tommaso Apostolo was built between 1822 and 1831;
- The Bosco del Cansiglio, which, with the remains of a hunters' camp, is the first specific evidence of human presence in the area dated 11,000 years BC;
- The "Palù di Livenza" Archaeological Park, the largest European site with the remains of a human pile-dwelling settlement and the richest in archaeological material with numerous finds from the Upper Paleolithic, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.
- The sports museum with sports memorabilia, primarily related to cycling.
Gastronomy
In a hilly area exposed to the sun all day, with soil rich in calcium carbonate, a unique plant produces the Figo moro.
