Bormio is an Italian municipality in the province of Sondrio in Lombardy. It is located in the upper Valtellina, at approximately 1,225 meters above sea level, and is surrounded by the mountains of the Rhaetian Alps.

The history of Bormio dates back to Roman times when it was a vital spa and transit center along the Via Claudia Augusta. During the Middle Ages, the town was disputed between various local lords, including the Chur bishops, the Bormio counts, and the Grisons.

Bormio is famous for its spas, exploiting the mineral-rich thermal waters from the surrounding mountains. The thermal baths of Bormio are considered among the oldest in Europe and offer a wide range of spa and wellness treatments.

In addition to the spas, Bormio is also renowned for its ski slopes. The Bormio ski resort is part of the Alta Valtellina ski area, which also includes the stations of Santa Caterina Valfurva, Livigno, and Valdidentro.

The slopes of Bormio are famous for their difficulty and have been home to numerous international alpine skiing competitions, including World Cup races.

Bormio is also a critical summer tourist center, thanks to its location in the middle of the mountains. Nature lovers can go hiking, mountain biking, and climbing on the surrounding rock walls.
