On 17 January 2014, Borgo Sant'Antonio was recognized as one of the "most beautiful villages in Italy" as an honorary guest. This recognition was obtained thanks to the commitment of the residents of Corso Bersaglieri and Porta Pesa (around 40 families) who, since 2010, have decided to set up the "Rivivi il Borgo" association to restore liveability to their neighborhood, which today has around 300 members... #tuttitaly
Located in Perugia, the charming Borgo di Sant'Antonio has a rich history of traditions and struggles for freedom. Known in the past as Corso Bersaglieri, the village owes its name to the patron saint and the presence of the courageous bersaglieri, who liberated the city from papal rule in 1860.
Borgo Sant'Antonio's origins date back to the mid-11th century, when it formed outside the ancient city walls. Slowly, the area developed with the influx of people from the countryside, expanding between the gates of Sole and San Pietro. The village consolidated towards the top of the hill, bordered by deep valleys and regal streets.
Today, Borgo Sant'Antonio has been recognized as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in Italy" thanks to the efforts of its inhabitants. The association "Rivivi il Borgo" has devoted itself to revitalizing the neighborhood, organizing events such as the Christmas Via dei Presepi and the feast of Sant'Antonio. These initiatives have attracted numerous visitors and contributed to restoring the village's splendor.
The preservation of traditions and the recovery of historical sites are at the core of the residents' commitment. They see the past as an opportunity to build a more cohesive and supportive community. Borgo Sant'Antonio, with its captivating history and vibrant community, continues to enchant visitors and residents, establishing itself as a gem to discover in Umbria.
