Berceto (PR) - Emilia Romagna

Berceto is an Italian municipality located in the province of Parma, in the Emilia-Romagna region. It is located in the Parma Apennines, around 700 meters above sea level.

History

Berceto is a place rich in history and culture, which experienced significant development and prosperity during the Rossi period. During this period, numerous religious and civil buildings were built, such as the Church of San Moderanno, the Church of San Giovanni Battista, and the Palazzo dei Rossi. Furthermore, essential fortification works, such as constructing the walls and defense towers, were carried out.

Over the following centuries, Berceto underwent various dominations, passing under the control of the Visconti, the Sforza, and the Farnese.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, Berceto faced economic and demographic decline due to emigration to industrial cities. But in recent decades, the village has experienced a rebirth thanks to tourism, which has led to the renovation and recovery of the ancient buildings and the valorization of local traditions.

Gastronomy

Berceto is also famous for its gastronomic tradition, with typical dishes such as herb Tortelli, coppa di testa, and Berceto salami.
