Basilica Sanctuary of the Madonna of Monte Berico - Vicenza (VI) - UNESCO heritage - Veneto

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Monte Berico is an essential place of worship in Vicenza, Italy. Its origins are linked to the two apparitions of the Madonna to Vincenza Pasini, a woman who brought food to her husband working on the hill: the first on March 7, 1426, and the second on August 1, 1428. The Madonna promised the end of the plague and asked that a church be dedicated to her in that place.

The first small church was built in a few months, in late Gothic style, and was completed in 1428. Next to the church, a small cenobium was also built, which housed a religious community dedicated to welcoming pilgrims.

After a short period under the control of the Bridgettine friars, the Sanctuary was entrusted to the Servites in 1435, still its custodians.

Over the centuries, the Sanctuary has undergone expansions and restorations, taking on its current appearance. Today, the Sanctuary of Monte Berico is an essential center of Marian devotion and a place of prayer for the faithful. Every year, thousands of pilgrims visit the sanctuary to pay homage to the Madonna and participate in religious celebrations.
