Vagli Sopra, hamlet of Vagli Sotto (LU) - Apuan Alps - Garfagnana - Tuscany

Vagli Sopra is an Italian municipality in the province of Lucca, in Tuscany. It is located in the Garfagnana region, about 40 kilometers north of Lucca. The town has a population of around 500 inhabitants, commonly called "Vaglisoprini."

The territory of Vagli Sopra is characterized by uncontaminated nature and suggestive landscapes. The area is rich in woods, mountains, and waterways, among which Lake Vagli stands out.

This artificial lake, created in '47 with the construction of a dam on the Edron River, is one of the area's main attractions.

When the water level is lowered for maintenance, the old village of Fabbriche di Careggine emerges, which had been submerged by the waters.

Gastronomy

Vagli Sopra is also known for its culinary tradition, mainly based on local products and typical Tuscan dishes. Among the specialties to taste are spelled soup, chestnut polenta, and sheep's cheeses.
