Trafoi, Solda and Gomagoi - Fractions of Stelvio (BZ) - Venosta Valley - Trentino-Alto Adige

Routes from the fantastic Stelvio State Road 38... #tuttitaly

Trafoi, Solda, and Gomagoi are three fascinating hamlets located in the Stelvio region in the province of Bolzano. Each of these locations has its history and peculiarities that make them unique.

Trafoi, meaning "Three Fountains" in Ladin, is famous for its three water springs with alleged healing properties. These fountains are part of an ancient sanctuary built in 1229 of great historical and spiritual importance. Celtic druids are said to have taught their successors here, making Trafoi a place of knowledge and wisdom.

But Trafoi is a place of spirituality and the homeland of Gustav Thöni, one of the greatest skiers ever. Its Olympic and world victories have made Trafoi a reference destination for ski lovers.

Solda, on the other hand, is famous for its "At the end of the world" museum, part of the Messer Mountain Museum project curated by Reinhold Messer, an internationally renowned climber.

The museum houses a unique collection of Yak species imported by Messer.

Furthermore, in the primary school of Solda, there is a museum dedicated to the Ortles region, which includes a small exhibition on the First World War, which saw the Italian and Austrian fronts clash in this area.

Finally, Gomagoi is a picturesque village located at 1,275 meters above sea level, at the entrance to the Trafoi Valley, near the Stelvio Pass.

Its strategic position is evident from the remains of the 1860 Austro-Hungarian fort, which was part of the fortification system called "Gomagoi Barrage." Today, Gomagoi offers many opportunities for hiking and cycling, sport fishing in the lake, and visits to the wildlife reserve of the Stelvio National Park.

In winter, the ski slopes of Solda and Trafoi are easily reachable from Gomagoi. During the summer, however, you can practice summer skiing by reaching the Stelvio Pass.

These three hamlets of Stelvio offer a unique experience between history, nature, and sport, which will leave an indelible mark in the hearts of those who visit them.
