Toppo is a typical village in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, which has joined the Club "The most beautiful villages in Italy."
To be seen
In the village, we can observe the remains of the medieval castle, at the foot of which stands the Palazzo Toppo Wassermann. It is a farm which, in the 16th century, developed into an elegant country house.
Toppo is known for its farms (family-run rural houses). In 1220, there were only eight.
From the courtyard of the Palace, you enter the noble chapel of San Girolamo, which houses a statue of Santa Lucia in painted stone.
Origins of the name
The toponym appeared for the first time in 1186; according to some, it means "large trunk of a landed tree"; others, it would instead indicate the orography of the territory, the hump on which the town stands.
