Scala dei Turchi - Realmonte (AG) - Sicily

Words cannot describe Scala Dei Turchi, this beautiful part of Italy.

I hope, with some photos, I can give you an idea of the panorama that appears when you arrive on the coast north of Porto Empedocle.

I decided to stop in Lido Marinella and enjoy the warm Sicilian sun, but once in the sea, it is impossible not to be kidnapped by that massive white staircase that almost blinds you.

The rock that characterizes this color is called "marl" of calcareous and clayey nature, which presents this characteristic and unique pure white color. Being in the shape of a staircase due to the erosion of the winds and the sea, it becomes easy to climb it to enjoy the panorama that surrounds you to the fullest.

It is called "Scala dei Turchi" because the Saracens landed here, improperly called "Turks" by the locals, who sacked the neighboring villages using the stairs and the covered position. It is an extraordinary and satisfying feeling to walk up the ladder.

This place is now considered one of the most beautiful landscapes in Italy and the second most visited place in Agrigento after the Valley of the Temples. It is also a candidate for inclusion in UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Arrived near the Scala, you can decide whether to enjoy the view from afar or go up following the steps that pass on the other side and back down to the sea.

You will find clean water, shallow water, and a sign that says: Beware of falling rocks. Behind you, the wall overlooking the sea is very high, and it is good to be cautious.
