Sanctuary of the Crucifix - Castel San Pietro Terme (BO) - Emilia Romagna

The Sanctuary of the Crucifix overlooks Piazza XX Settembre, the beating heart of Castel San Pietro Terme.

Built-in 1741, the Sanctuary preserves the venerated image of the Crucifix.

In 1930, the bell tower was added, inside, the carillon of 55 bells (an original invention by Giulio Gollini).

The image of the Crucifix

In 1543, the Compagnia del Santissimo received an icon of the Crucifix as a gift.

Every year, on the fifth Sunday of Lent, the "Festa del Crocifisso" is held, and the sacred icon is carried in procession through the city streets.
