San Pellegrino in Alpe, hamlet of Frassinoro (MO) and Castiglione di Garfagnana (LU) - Parish and Sanctuary of Saints Pellegrino and Bianco - Border between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany

San Pellegrino in Alpe, located at 1525 m above sea level, was born on the remains of San Pellegrino.

Legend has it that the young San Pellegrino, son of the king of Scotland, renounced the crown, abandoned his homeland, and began a long pilgrimage through Europe. He reached the Alpe forest located between the beech woods of the Garfagnana and the peaks of Cusna, Rondinaio, and Cimone.

San Pellegrino and Bianco, a hermit, offered hospitality to wayfarers who traveled the ancient Bibulca and Vandelli streets.

Even today, San Pellegrino in Alpe is a destination for pilgrimages and international devotion.

The border between the Emilia and Tuscany regions cuts the Sanctuary into equal and opposite parts. The saints,

placed in the urn inside the small temple of Matteo

Civitali, behind the high altar, rest with the head and bust in Emilia and the rest of the body in Tuscany.

The Ethnographic Museum of Rural Civilization, located inside the old hospital, named after the founder Don Luigi Pellegrini, exhibits over 4000 objects, among Italy's largest and most admired.
