Rocca Calascio Castle, hamlet of Calascio (AQ) - Church of Santa Maria della Pietà - Abruzzo

Rocca Calascio is considered one of the most beautiful castles in the world according to National Geographic and is located in the enchanting region of Abruzzo. Its position at 1460 meters above sea level makes it one of the highest castles in Europe, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the Tirino Valley and the Navelli Plateau.

The history of Rocca Calascio dates back to even earlier times. The first known inhabitants of this area were groups of shepherd farmers from the Bronze Age.

Traces of their settlements, such as fragments of pottery and a bronze arrowhead, have been discovered near the castle and the Church of Madonna della Pietà.

The Church of Madonna della Pietà, located in a panoramic position just before reaching the Rocca, is a true landmark in the area. Its octagonal architecture and imposing dimensions make it a place of great importance.

Unfortunately, the church is only open to the public during special events or film shoots. However, even just admiring it from the outside offers a suggestive experience, mainly thanks to the panoramic view of the surrounding mountains.

Rocca Calascio and the Church of Madonna della Pietà are two gems attracting the attention of visitors and photographers worldwide.

If you are lucky enough to visit them during one of the special events when the church is open to the public, you can fully immerse yourself in their unique atmosphere and admire their timeless beauty.
