Our visit to the Rio Marina Mining Park begins at the Mining Museum, located in the historic center of the town. We take a characteristic red train to the heart of the open-cast mine.

The park preserves and enhances what remains of almost three millennia of a culture marked by the extraction of iron ore and man's work.

Visiting it, we can admire the suggestive mining sites, which with their shape and color, make us almost feel like we are on Mars 😁

What is particularly impressive is the idea of ​​being in a place that tells the sweat of men who did a tough job. And this image contrasts with the indescribable charm of the site.

The tour guide accompanies us, telling us the history of the mines to the Valle Giove construction site, the largest of the Elban mines, where he offers each visitor a hammer and a bag. With these, we can dig and research mineral samples to take home as a souvenir. In particular, here, we find small pieces of pyrite and hematite.

The visit is instructive for adults and a real adventure for children. Deserved!
