The ideal place to spend a summer day. Its waters descend from a height of about 30 meters and enter the Santerno River, the same river that crosses Imola until it joins Reno. We are between the municipalities of Castel del Rio (BO) and Firenzuola (FI)... #tuttitaly
A few meters before the border between the provinces of Bologna and Florence, we find the Rio dei Briganti waterfall.
On the other bank of the Santerno River, a tributary of the Reno, we see an abandoned village surrounded by vegetation: the town of Castiglioncello.
The history of Castiglioncello began as early as the 9th century as a fortified village under the control of Bologna.
The town had arisen along the border between the cities of Bologna and Florence, and it seems that a family who lived in the village imposed high duties on the merchandise that passed along the road.
In 1833, the village of Castiglioncello had 63 inhabitants; in 1931, only 31, and in the 1960s, it was already uninhabited.
From the village of Castiglioncello, you can see the Cascata di Moraduccio:
a jet of about thirty meters pours into the stream's crystalline waters. Along the shore, you can have a picnic and sunbathe.
The river is full of scenographic wells, ideal for swimming. We are immersed in nature in a splendid, peaceful, relaxing place.
