Posticciola is located near the archaeological area of the ancient city Trebula Mutuesca (today Monteleone Sabino) and could form its original pre-Roman core... #tuttitaly
Posticciola is the main fraction of Rocca Sinibalda, a municipality in the province of Rieti in Lazio.
The hamlet, which rises 540 m above sea level, is surrounded by Lake Turano, known initially as Lake Posticciola. Until 1876, the village was, in fact, a municipality in its own right, and its inhabitants e of Rocchigiani also took that of Posticciolesi.
The incredible thing is that approximately 50 people inhabit Posticciola. Many of the old posticciolesi were farmers who worked the land in the fields where today there is Turano Lake.
In Roman times, Posticciola was part of the territory of the ancient Roman city of Trebula Mutuesca (today Monteleone Sabino). Numerous Roman architectural remains in the area are visible from the outermost city streets on the slopes of the neighboring mountains.
They are symbolized by the ancient Roman Bridge, called Ponte Vecchio, which is reachable with a short walk down from the town.
In ancient times, the hamlet was a "post office" for the shepherds during the transhumance and still retains the layout of a medieval Sabine village.
The first historical evidence of the town dates back to 898. Still, the name seems of more recent origin:
traces of 1844 indicate that it derived from the union of the terms of the neighboring towns, Posta and Roccucciola.
Of historical interest is the church of Santa Maria Assunta Immacolata, the ancient fortress, and the dam that allowed the formation of Lake Turano, an artificial basin of great naturalistic importance for the area.
