A landscape of incredible beauty and relevant scientific interest... #tuttitaly
The area of Gessi Della Croara is a fascinating place that allows you to enjoy the sunset over the city after a pleasant walk in nature. You can admire a Bolognese panorama from the Certosa to the two Towers and beyond.
I Gessi della Croara are part of the Parco dei Gessi Bolognesi.
The chalky outcrops are present above all in the top part of the Dolina Della Spipola, the largest of the natural basins of the park, a circular cavity typical of karst areas, with a diameter of seven hundred meters and a depth of about 90 meters.
In the lower area of the sinkhole, there is a microclimate that makes the air fresh even on the hottest summer days.
Our route begins in the parking lot "Madonna dei Boschi." From here, we head towards the "Palestrina" rest area, where we can take the CAI path 817 and continue among the vegetation until we reach the Madonna dei Boschi Oratory. A short distance from the oratory, we find a crossroads.
To reach the Dolina Della Spipola, we continue to the left, along the CAI 802 path.
Crossed the asphalted road and passed another stretch in the woods, we noticed the tower of the Abbey of Santa Cecilia Della Croara.
The next destination is the Palazza stop. Along the way, we cannot help but admire the suggestive panorama that gradually unfolds before our eyes. Once here, we can quench our thirst with fresh water from the fountain.
We take the Nature Trail from here, which brings us to the Dolina Della Spipola.
The path leads us into a dense forest, and as we descend, we perceive a sudden temperature change. We feel an increasingly cool temperature as we approach the base of the basin, at -90 meters above sea level from the Palazza area.
And finally, we meet the true protagonist of the Parco dei Gessi Bolognesi, the Grotta della Spipola—one of the most evocative natural places around Bologna.
To visit the Grotta Della Spipola, you can book one of the dates on which the park authority organizes guided excursions at the website: Grotta Della Spipola.
The route is about 500 meters long and does not present particular difficulties, although, at some points, it is necessary to pay attention.
