With an area of 3,680 hectares, it constitutes an essential naturalistic corridor between the Picentini mountains, the Lucanian Apennines, and Basilicata... #tuttitaly
Between the Picentini mountains, the Lucanian Apennines, and Basilicata, the Monti Eremita-Marzano nature reserve extends for 3680 hectares, a protected area established in 1993.
The reserve includes the limestone massif of Monti Eremita (1579 m) and Marzano (1527 m), between the river Sele and the border with Muro Lucano, in Basilicata.
The area is covered with old trees and vast clearings.
Among the plant species are oak, chestnut, holm oak, downy oak, cooker, alder, beech, and maple. In the middle of the woods, they hide the Apennine wolf and the wild cat.
There is no shortage of bird species, such as the peregrine falcon, the red shrike, the red kite, the quail, the woodcock, and the great spotted woodpecker.
Path of the Brigand
From Collianello, you can take the suggestive Sentiero del Brigante. After a few bends with a view of the Sele Valley, you reach Piano di Pecora, a vast plateau partly covered in woods and partially cleared.
