Monghidoro (BO) - Emilia Romagna

Monghidoro rises to 841 m above sea level. Due to its geographical position, which the writer Giordano Berti has defined as the "Crossroads of Europe," it has been an obligatory place of passage between the Po Valley and Central Italy over the centuries.

The town was born as a settlement of Goths in the frontier area towards the end of the 6th century.

Hence, Mons Gothorum (Mount of the Goths) was born in the seventh century, from which Monghidoro probably derives.

The most crucial historical character of Monghidoro is Armaciotto dei Ramazzotti, who, in 1528, built the Cloister of the Olivetani.

The Cloister was donated to the monastic order of the Olivetan Benedictines, thus becoming a monastery.

The Benedictines managed it until 1797.

Today, the structure hosts cultural events in the summer months.

Monghidoro's TRUFFLE FESTIVAL

On November 1st of each year, the Festival is set up with protagonists: mushrooms, truffles, local honey, and chestnuts, particularly the Marrone Biondo typical of Monghidoro.
