Modena (MO) - UNESCO World Heritage Site - Emilia Romagna

It is the ideal city: it knows how to be admired for its architectural treasures, how to welcome thanks to its magnificent cuisine, and how to surprise with that mix of innovation and tradition that characterizes it... #UNESCO #tuttitaly

"To discover amazing places, you don't need to go very far" - this was my thought when I found myself in the center of Modena, and above all, in front of its magnificent Cathedral.

We chose a February day to visit the city of Modena. It was my birthday, so a good reason not to stay indoors. I never expected to fall in love with this place and its monuments which recount the splendor of a city for a long time, the capital of a duchy, that of the Lords of Este, who have resided here since 1598.

UNESCO has recognized the universal value of its treasures by declaring the Duomo, Piazza Grande, and the Ghirlandina Tower a world heritage site.

Piazza Grande is the beating heart of Modena, a graceful and "alive" space, a meeting place for citizens. It invites you to stop and admire its beauty.

I was absorbed in front of the mystical beauty of the Duomo, a splendid example of Romanesque art, the work of the architect Lanfranco, who designed the structure, and the sculptor Wiligelmo. The building is majestic both inside and out. The gaze is lost in the details, and one is amazed by this extraordinary work.

The Ghirlandina was born as the bell tower of the Cathedral. It stands next to it. Climbing to the top of the building, one can see the lovely city from above.

Typical products

The city is famous for its Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, a condiment with a protected geographical indication, a product to know and appreciate.
