Millesimo extends along the right bank of the Bormida River in Liguria. The Bric Tana Regional Natural Park includes part of the municipal territory.
Millesimo was founded in 1206 when Enrico II Del Carretto surrounded the village and the local castle with walls.
The symbol of Millesimo is the Gaietta bridge, mentioned in the foundation document of the village.
The watchtower with Ghibelline battlements, commissioned by Cardinal Carlo Domenico Del Carretto towards the end of the 15th century, was one of the gateways to the village. Today the bridge looks like a suspended walkway.
The historical center is dominated by the Castle of Millesimo, built in the Middle Ages by the Del Carretto family. Today, the facility hosts classical music concerts and exhibitions.
Worth a visit is the Church of Santa Maria extra muros, built during the 12th century outside the walls of the historic center of the town. The Romanesque building with three naves was mentioned in a document of 998 named San Petri da Millesimo.
