Marzabotto is known for the massacre of Monte Sole by the Nazis in the Second World War. The town is located in the Reno River valley and is 25 km from Bologna Guglielmo Marconi airport.


What to see

At the center of the town, we find the Shrine with the remains of civilian victims and partisans who died following the 1944 massacre.

To the north of the town stands the parish church of San Lorenzo di Panico, dating back to the 12th century. The church is considered one of the most beautiful Romanesque buildings in the Bolognese Apennines.


Also worth visiting are the Pompeo Aria National Etruscan Museum and the archaeological area of ​​the ancient city of Kainua (testimony of the Etruscan civilization).

Among the culinary specialties of Marzabotto are tortellini, tortelloni, tagliatelle, boiled meats, and rabbit cacciatore. The area is also renowned for its greaves, lard, and guanciale.

The Monte Sole Historical Park hosts the "Memorial" route with the symbolic places of the massacre, on the summit of the Mount, a stele in memory of the partisans.
