Madonna di Campiglio, hamlet of Pinzolo (TN) - Dolomites - UNESCO - Rendena Valley - Trentino-Alto Adige

Madonna di Campiglio, the ski resort par excellence in the Dolomites, ensures in winter the possibility of covering countless kilometers of slopes up to 2600 m, starting from the town center and returning without taking off your skis, varying in degree of difficulty.

Starting from the second half of the 19th century, Madonna di Campiglio became the favorite destination of the Austrian royal family.

What to visit

A few kilometers from the city center, following the "Cantico delle Creature" path from the church of Santa Maria Antica, you arrive at Piazza Imperatrice: the princess's favorite vantage point.

Among the things to see, the Salone Hofer, inside the Hotel Des Alpes, the old Alpine Establishment, is not to be missed. The salon is decorated with Art Nouveau paintings by Gottfried Hofer.

The depictions represent the Brenta Dolomites, paying homage to the Virgin and Child, Princess Sissi, and Emperor Franz Joseph.

Among the religious buildings, the church of Santa Maria Antica is worth a visit: a granite building in the neo-Gothic-Tyrolean style, dating back to the end of the 19th century. We can admire the 13th-century Nordic-style crucifix donated by Charlemagne and the 15th-century triptych above the altar.

In 2004, the Church of Our Madonna of Europe was inaugurated in the center of Madonna di Campiglio. Inside is the painting of the Madonna of Europe in blue.

Sports and activities

In winter, the main activities in Madonna di Campiglio are related to winter sports. The ski area goes from Folgarida, in Val di Sole, to Madonna di Campiglio and includes 150 km of slopes.

In summer, the 50,000 hectares of the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park and the 450 km of mountain trails offer incredible landscapes for those who can explore them on foot or by mountain bike.

Gastronomy

Those who like discovering the local specialties can taste canederli, spätzle, gnocchi, orzotto with vegetables, soup with beans, and porcini mushrooms.
