Monte Sasso del Ferro is one of the most famous viewpoints on Lake Maggiore, especially for hang gliding and paragliding enthusiasts.
Laveno-Mombello is one of the most easily accessible destinations on the lake for tourism because it is well connected to the significant Lombard centers:
the Northern Railways, which connect it with Varese and
then Milan, reach up to a few meters from the lake; the State Railways connect it to Switzerland; the ferry allows you to cross the lake by car to reach the Piedmont tourist centers.
The center offers tourists a pleasant walk along the lakefront, with arcaded buildings and pedestrian paths.
In the past, Laveno was an essential center for producing ceramics and porcelain, among the largest in Italy and Europe.
The closed factories have given life to the Civic Collection of Earthenware, a museum that contains the most significant artistic ceramics produced from the end of the 19th century onwards.
The historic center is home to the splendid Villa De Angeli Frua, which boasts its beautiful botanical park. In Casalzuigno, along the Valcuvia, we find the fascinating Villa della Porta Bozzolo.
Events
Every second Sunday of the month, except January and February, the Labiena Fair is set up, a market of handicraft, gastronomic and artistic products.
From the first days of December until the end of the Christmas holidays, it is possible to admire the suggestive Submerged and Illuminated Nativity Scene positioned in the lake in the area in front of the complete center of Laveno.
Gastronomy
Among the typical dishes of Laveno, you can taste: Lombard minestrone, Brianza minestrone, sweet and sour spinach, venison stew, and heaven cake.
