The Pistoia mountains were the meeting point of critical medieval roads, along which numerous fortified settlements rose... #tuttitaly
La Lima, Popiglio, and Mammiano are three fractions of San Marcello Piteglio.
The Lima
Lima was formed in the 19th century around the Cini Paper Mill, the beating industrial heart that gave life and hopes to the town.
The factory was named after a visionary entrepreneur who understood how hydraulic power could be harnessed to make paper.
Today the town is abandoned, but you can still admire the building that created its history.
Popiglio
At 811 m above sea level, the Popiglio Towers rise, the last remains of the Rocca Securana, an essential point of defense of the Pistoia mountains on the border with the Lucca state until the 15th century.
in the Church Square are the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta and the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art, where important testimonies of popular religiosity are exhibited.
Mammian
The inhabited center of Mammiano is divided into two residential areas: Mammiano alto and Mammiano basso.
The latter is remembered with the ancient toponym "le Ferriere" due to the presence, in the past, of ironworking activities.
The suspension bridge of the Ferriere, 227m long, was entered by the Guinness Book of Records, which counted it as "the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world."
